THE PROJECT
The project replaced eighteen garages with three four-bedroom houses, parking, amenity space, new vehicle access from Caishowe Road and pedestrian access from Bracken Close. Two homes meet accessible M4(3) requirements.
CONSIDERED CHOICES
A Sigma II closed-panel timber frame supports airtightness and a lower carbon footprint. Air-source heat pumps, photovoltaic roof tiles and enhanced insulation improve energy performance.
Around £500,000 of labour and materials was placed within 25 miles. Soakaways, tree protection and local purchasing reduced wider environmental impact.
PROJECT DELIVERY
Asbestos-containing materials were removed before demolition. The narrow tree-lined access required small vehicles, protected roots and branches, just-in-time call-offs, and carefully sequenced utility trenches.
Accessible homes include hoists, platform lifts, adjustable kitchens, level-access showers and specialist appliances coordinated with the Occupational Therapist.
